From the fAountains in the mountains
comes the wEater running cool and clear and bAlue.
And it cAomes down from the hills
and it gEoes down to the towns and passes tAhrough.
When it gDets down to the cities
then the water turns into a dirty gAray.
It's pAoisoned and polluted
by the pEeople as it goes along its wAay.
DDon't go near the water children
see the fish all dead upon the sAhore.
DDon't go near the water
cause the wAater isn't wEater any-mAore.
I took my boy fishin' to my old favorite fishin' hole.
I had caught many a fish out of that deep clear water
From the time I was a boy like him.
I said: "ID think I Agot a nibble son." A
"Me too" he said.
Then he said: "Daddy if we catch a fish can we eat it?"
I said: "Well there was a time son.
This water's bad now and I might not be safe to eat the fish but there was a time."
There wAas a time the air was clean
and yEou could see forever cross the pAlains.
The wAind was sweet as honey
and no oEne had ever heard of acid rAain.
We're tDorturin' the earth
and pourin' every kind of evil in the sAea.
We vAiolated nature
and our cEhildren have to pay the penal-tAy.
