Key: AEnglish
Verse
DThe first thing I remember Gknowin' was a Dlonesome whistle Gblowin',
And a Dyoungun's dream of Ggrowin' up to A7ride,
On a Dfreight train leavin' Gtown, not Dknowin' where I'm Gbound.
And Dno one could change my A7mind but Momma DTried.
Verse
DOne and only Rebel Gchild from a Dfam'ly meek and Gmild
My Dmomma seemed to Gknow what lay in A7store,
'Spite Dall my Sunday Glearnin' towards the Dbad I kept on Gturnin',
'Til Dmomma couldn't A7hold me Danymore.
Chorus
And I turned Dtwenty-one in prison doin' Glife without Dparole,
No Bmone could steer me right but Mamma A7Tried, Momma Tried
Momma DTried to raise me better but her Gpleading I Ddenied
And that leaves A7only me to blame, cause Momma DTried
Verse
DDear ole' daddy, rest his Gsoul left my Dmom a heavy Gload,
She Dtried so very Ghard to feel his A7shoes,
Workin' Dhours without Grest, wanted Dme to have the Gbest
She Dtried to raise me Gright but I A7refused.
Chorus
