1. Acceptance
By creating an account on “Campfire Songbook”, you accept these terms and the privacy policy below. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
2. The service
“Campfire Songbook” lets you sing together around a “campfire”: synchronized lyrics and chords. Anyone can create a campfire: without an account, an anti-bot check is required and the campfire belongs to no one; with an account, it is kept in “My campfires”. Guests join a campfire with an invite code and a first name, without an account. An author can also let the people they choose read one of their private songs, with a link and an access code, without creating a campfire.
3. Account and security
- You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for your account’s activity.
- You provide a valid email address; a verification link is sent to you.
- We may suspend an account in case of abuse, spam, or violation of these terms.
4. Content and copyright
You only submit content you have the right to share (public domain, your own work, or authorized). Lyrics and scores may be protected by copyright. Any takedown request can be sent to [contact email]; we promptly remove content flagged in good faith. A private song you share by link remains your responsibility: only share it with people you choose.
5. Personal data (Law 25 — Quebec)

Data processed:
- Account: email, display name, password (hashed), login dates.
- Campfire participation: chosen first name, presence, song requests.
- Security: hashed IP addresses (anti-abuse), technical logs.
- Private sharing of a song: the link, the access code and the expiry date, tied to your account; code attempts are counted by hashed IP address.
- Messages written to the team (Contact, Become a moderator): name, email and message, kept in the team’s inbox so it can reply.
Purposes: provide the service, secure accounts, prevent abuse. No resale, no advertising, no third-party trackers. The anti-bot check (Mosparo) is self-hosted with no third-party cookie.
Retention: expirable data (logs, presence, ephemeral campfires) is deleted after at most 1 year. An account inactive for 2 years is deleted (email notice 30 days before). You can request deletion of your account at any time. A share link stops working on the date its author chose (at most 1 year after it was last saved) and is erased 30 days later; it stops right away if its author turns it off or deletes their account. A message archived by the team loses its email one year later; the text stays.
Your rights: access, correction, deletion and portability of your data. Write to [contact email]. You may also file a complaint with Quebec’s Commission d’accès à l’information.
6. Cookies and local storage
A session cookie is used for login and security (CSRF); a cookie also stores your language. When you sign up, a signed 48-hour cookie (your account number and the page you came from, no email or name) lets the verification link, opened in this browser, log you in; it is deleted as soon as it has been used, or expires after those 48 hours. Preferences (text size, line following, a campfire presence token) are kept in your browser (localStorage). When you open a shared song with the right code, a signed cookie (30 days at most, never past the link’s expiry) saves you from entering the code again; it contains neither the code nor your identity. When you stay a few seconds on a song page and then move to another, a 30-minute cookie (adf_trail: the time, a counter and the numbers of the last songs viewed, no identity) is used to record, anonymously, which songs follow each other, for the “Up next” suggestions. No advertising tracker.
7. Availability and liability
The service is provided “as is”, with no availability guarantee. We are not responsible for content submitted by users.
8. Changes
These terms may change; the update date above prevails. Significant changes will be announced.
