Create and edit a song

With an account, you get a full editor to prepare your songs privately, then propose them to the shared songbook. Here is the whole journey, from a blank page to publication.

A song you create starts as a private draft: only you can see it, and you can change it as often as you like. When it is ready, you send it for moderation; a moderator reviews it before adding it to the songbook. No account? Use Add a song instead.

1. Create a draft

   Log in, open “My workspace” from your profile menu (👤), then “My songs”. Click “＋ Create a draft”: the editor opens on an empty song. The “Contribute” → “Add a complete song” menu leads to the same place. No account yet? “Sign up”, in the top menu next to “Log in” (under ☰ on a small screen), creates one; then open the verification email’s link in the same browser within 48 hours: you’ll be logged in and brought back to the page you started from.

2. Fill in the details

   Enter “Title”, “Artist” and “Original key” (for our example: Itsy Bitsy Spider, Traditional, G), then “Capo”, “Tempo (bpm)” and “Language” if needed. Add one or more “Categories” so the song is easy to find.

3. Write the song

   On the left, the “ChordPro source” box holds the lyrics and chords; on the right, the preview shows the result as you type. The toolbar above inserts chords, sections, colors and the strumming pattern for you.

4. Save

   Click “💾 Save”, at the top of the editor or at the bottom of the page (Ctrl+S works too). The song is saved as a draft: nobody else can see it. The “View the song” link opens its real page, exactly as it will look.

5. Find it and edit it

   In “My songs”, each song shows its status: “Draft”, “In review” or “Public”. Click “Edit” to reopen a draft in the editor. “🔗 Share” creates a link and an access code so the people you choose can read a draft, without creating a campfire: see Share a private song.

   

6. Send it for moderation

   When it is ready, click “Send for moderation” on your song’s row. It switches to “In review” and the editor stays locked while the request waits: “Withdraw request” gives it back to you. Once approved, it becomes “Public” and joins the songbook.

7. Edit a public song

   A public song, even your own, can no longer be edited directly: “Propose an edit” opens the correction flow, reviewed by a moderator.

Go further

Once your song is ready, add it to a playlist or a fire and start the sing-along. It all starts from its page (the “View the song” link): “🔥 Play with friends” sets up a campfire with it already playing, and right next to it, “＋ Add to a playlist” files it into one of your playlists or starts a new one with it — both work even while it is still a private draft. You can come back and refine it whenever you like.
